Between dry weather, blow drying, and styling, our hair can take a beating. A deep conditioner is a great way to keep frizz under control and your locks stay hydrated. Plus, this DIY treatment gives you an excuse to steal a few minutes of self-care solace.

Let’s get started!

Choose Your Potion

There’s plenty of options when it comes to hair care. When looking for a deep conditioner, opt for products with natural ingredients like coconut oil, honey, or avocado. You can even mix those natural ingredients together for a DIY conditioner.

Start from the Bottom

After giving your hair a good wash you can start applying your treatment. Massage a quarter sized dollop into your hair, starting at the tips and gently working your way towards the scalp. Keep in mind that your ends are likely to be the driest part of your hair, so be sure to show them some love. Use a wide toothed comb to help work the softening goodness through every strand.

Sit Back and Relax

This is the fun part! Pop on a shower cap (or wrap your head in a towel), put on a podcast, and let the conditioner sit for 20+ minutes.

Heat Things Up

Some deep conditioners work best with a little heat. Using the lowest setting, blow dry your shower cap for a few minutes. This light heat can help your hair absorb the solution.

Try a Cold Rinse

Wash the conditioner out with cold water to help seal in the effects. The cool water also makes your hair shinier post shower. After your soak, towel dry your hair instead of blow drying to allow every last bit of moisture to melt into place. Post-treatment, try to go as long as possible without shampooing to avoid oily buildup.
