There’s no doubt cleaning has always been a part of your routine, but today, disinfecting and sterilizing your salon is an important requirement. Prepare your salon for this new level of clean and welcome your clients back to a safe space with our deep clean checklist.

Check Your State Requirements

The specific safety procedures (such as sterilizing stations between clients) and equipment (like masks and gloves) will vary from state to state. Check with your local Board of Cosmetology to review the regulations in your state. Confirm what personal protective equipment and the safety protocols you (and your clients) will need to follow to ensure you can prepare for the necessary equipment and cleaning products.

Prepare Your Supplies

Once you reopen, you’ll likely experience a rush of appointments. Take this time to stock up on required safety products. Check with your state Board of Cosmetology to prepare your space with the necessary cleaning tools — barbicide, masks, smocks, gloves, and face shields — for the coming months. Check out our salon supply checklist, which includes the cleaning supplies you’ll need to keep clients safe.

Reorganize your Space

Before opening your salon doors, take some time to reorganize your space. Remove magazines and business cards from your reception area and instead place signage with links to your Instagram and salon website your clients can browse an online lookbook and book additional appointments. Remove products from a display table and instead consider selling products online.

At the end of the day, a clean workspace doesn’t have to feel cold or clinical. When reorganizing your space, remember to make your space more welcoming than ever. Get creative with your hand sanitizer, add a personal spin with glass bottles or provide salon-branded hand sanitizer as parting gifts for clients. Share your updates with your community on social media to get them excited to visit your new and improved space in person.
