Does StyleSeat Have Hidden Fees? Every Charge, Explained

By StyleSeat Editorial Team · Last updated October 6, 2026

You check your payout on Monday morning, coffee in one hand. It’s $14 less than you counted. You scroll the appointments, and there it is: a fee you don’t remember signing up for.

That moment is where “hidden fees” comes from. Not from a secret, usually. From a fee that showed up somewhere you weren’t looking.

The short answer: StyleSeat publishes every fee it charges. There are several, though. Most only show up when something happens, like a new client or a faster payout. That’s what makes them easy to miss.

Every StyleSeat fee, in one table

This is the full list. If a charge isn’t on it, it isn’t a StyleSeat fee.

The three kinds of StyleSeat fees

It helps to sort the list by what makes each fee show up.

Fixed fees. These are the same every month: your $35 subscription (with a promotion running at $19) and, if you add one, the $10 custom website. You know them before the month starts.

Card fees. Processing scales with what you take by card through StyleSeat. Take cash, and there’s no StyleSeat processing fee on that payment.

Event fees. These only happen when something happens. A marketplace client books you for the first time. A busy Saturday slot books at a Smart Pricing rate. You choose an instant payout. You send texts past your free 500.

That third group is where surprises come from. It’s also where most of the money StyleSeat helped you make comes from. You pay StyleSeat more when StyleSeat made you more.

How to find any fee on your payout

When a payout looks short, work through it in this order.

  1. Open the appointments in that payout and look for a New Client from StyleSeat tag or a Smart Pricing label.
  2. Check whether you took an instant payout. That carries a 1.8% fee.
  3. Check for any refunds you issued that week.
  4. Still stuck? StyleSeat’s live chat support is open Monday to Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific.

If a client you already know was tagged as new, you can request a correction. The fee comes back when the tag was wrong.

Is StyleSeat a scam?

No. StyleSeat has been shipping since 2011. It has booked more than 250M appointments and paid more than $12B to professionals. Its iOS app holds 4.91 stars across 288,553 ratings.

The word “scam” usually shows up in two places. One is a pro who got a fee she didn’t expect. The other is a client charged under a pro’s own policy, like a no-show fee, who blamed the app. Both are worth fixing. Neither is a scam.

Where the “hidden” feeling comes from

  • Several fees get lumped together. “Membership, transaction and new-client fees” sounds like one big bill. It’s three different charges, and two only happen sometimes.
  • Old numbers still circulate. Some reviews and competitor pages describe a free plan StyleSeat no longer offers, with different fees.
  • Your client’s fee lands on you. Clients pay a $2.35 booking fee. When they’re annoyed about it, you hear about it first.
  • Event fees are easy to forget. You turned on New Client Connection months ago. The fee shows up on a Tuesday.

What this means for you

  • Save the table above. It’s every fee StyleSeat charges.
  • Fixed fees are small. Event fees follow money StyleSeat helped you earn.
  • When a payout looks off, check the appointment tags first.
