Does StyleSeat Charge Clients? What Your Clients Pay

By Olori Swank· Last updated October 6, 2026

The text comes in while you’re mid-fill: “Why did StyleSeat charge me extra??” Two question marks. Your client is annoyed, and somehow it’s your problem now.

It helps to know exactly what a client pays on StyleSeat, and which parts come from you. Then you can answer in one text and get back to the nail in front of you.

The short answer: Clients pay one StyleSeat fee, a $2.35 booking fee when they book. Everything else they pay comes from you: your service price, and any deposit, no-show fee or Smart Pricing rate you’ve turned on.

What a client pays, line by line

Your service price. You set it. StyleSeat doesn’t add to it, except on Smart Pricing slots you’ve turned on.

The $2.35 booking fee. StyleSeat charges this to the client when they book. You don’t pay it. StyleSeat’s figure is that it reduces no-shows by over 80%.

A deposit, if you require one. You choose whether to ask for one and how much. It’s charged when the client books and goes toward the service.

A no-show or late-cancel fee, if your policy has one. You set the policy. When a client cancels late or doesn’t show, you choose whether to charge the fee or waive it.

A Smart Pricing rate, if it’s on. Your busiest slots can book at a higher price, up to 20%. Clients see the higher price and a high-demand label before they book.

The $2.35 booking fee: when it comes back

Here’s how it works.

  • The client cancels: the $2.35 isn’t refunded. That’s true even if they cancel well before your late-cancel window.
  • You cancel outside your own policy window: StyleSeat refunds the $2.35 to the client’s card. It takes 5 to 10 business days.
  • Either of you reschedules: the fee carries over to the new time. The client isn’t charged a new booking fee.

The booking fee is an incentive for the client to keep their appointment. We found it reduced client no shows by 80%. Rescheduling beats canceling for everyone. If a client needs a different day, move the appointment instead of canceling it.

What to tell a client who asks

Keep it short and friendly. Something like this works:

“Totally get it! The $2.35 is StyleSeat’s booking fee, and it stays with them to cover running the platform. You don’t owe me any late fee for canceling early. If you ever need a new time, let’s reschedule instead. That way you won’t pay the booking fee again.”

Change the late-fee line if they canceled inside your window.

The tip on Smart Pricing appointments

Clients sometimes say StyleSeat “added a tip automatically.” Here’s what’s happening.

On Smart Pricing appointments, the client gets a text right after the service with a link to set their tip. A 20% tip is filled in by default. The client can raise it, lower it or remove it for one hour after the appointment ends. After that, their card is charged for the service and tip together.

If that default doesn’t sit right with a regular, mark her as a VIP. VIPs never see Smart Pricing at all.

Deposits and no-show fees are yours

When a client is upset about a deposit or a no-show fee, they often blame StyleSeat. But those charges come from your policy. StyleSeat gives you the tools, and you decide how to use them.

That also means you can be flexible. You can lower or waive a deposit for a client. You can skip a no-show fee for someone who’s always on time. If you charged something by mistake, you can refund it from the appointment details.

What this means for you

  • The only StyleSeat fee your client pays is $2.35 at booking.
  • Rescheduling carries the booking fee over. Canceling doesn’t.
  • Deposits, no-show fees and Smart Pricing are your settings. You can change them for any client.
