StyleSeat Processing Fees: What It Costs to Take a Card
By Olori Swank · Last updated October 8, 2026
One page says 2.75%. A review says 36%. A promo banner says 1.9%. You want to know what it costs to tap a card after a $65 silk press.
Here’s the real rate, what it works out to, and where the other numbers came from.
The short answer: StyleSeat’s standing processing fee is 2.5% + 30¢ in person. It’s 2.6% + 30¢ for a card on file. It applies only to payments you take through StyleSeat. Cash and other payments outside StyleSeat carry no StyleSeat processing fee.
The rates, in real dollars
| Service | Tap to Pay or card reader (2.5% + 30¢) | Card on file (2.6% + 30¢) |
|---|---|---|
| $45 barber cut | $1.43 | $1.47 |
| $65 silk press | $1.93 | $1.99 |
| $150 lash fill and lift | $4.05 | $4.20 |
| $300 sew-in | $7.80 | $8.10 |
The difference between the two rates is a tenth of a percent. On a $65 service, that’s 6 cents.
What it adds up to in a month
Here’s an illustration. Say you take 60 card payments a month, all by Tap to Pay, totaling $4,000.
The percentage part is 2.5% of $4,000, or $100. The 30¢ part is 60 times 30¢, or $18. Your processing for the month is $118.
Your own number depends on two things: how much you take by card through StyleSeat, and how many separate payments that is.
Where the other numbers come from
- 2.75%. That’s an older StyleSeat rate. It still shows up on some older pages and in old review replies.
- 1.9%. That’s a promotional rate some new pros get for six months. It isn’t the standing rate.
- “36%” or “a third of my pay.” That usually comes from adding several fees on a new client’s first visit, including the New Client Connection fee. It isn’t a processing rate. On that client’s later visits, there’s no New Client Connection fee at all.
How clients can pay through StyleSeat
Clients can pay by credit or debit card, Apple Pay, Google Pay, Tap to Pay or a card reader. They can also use Klarna in four installments. Cash and checks work too, outside StyleSeat’s processing.
When you can skip processing
You don’t have to take cards through StyleSeat for regular appointments. A client paying cash pays no StyleSeat processing fee.
A few features do need StyleSeat Payments: New Client Connection first visits, Smart Pricing appointments, deposits and a no-show policy. Those charge a card, so processing applies to them.
What this means for you
- Budget about 2.5% + 30¢ for in-person card payments, and 2.6% + 30¢ for cards on file.
- On a $65 service, that’s under $2 either way.
- If you see 2.75% or 1.9%, it’s an old rate or a promotion.
