What Is StyleSeat’s New Client Connection, and What Does It Cost?

What Is StyleSeat’s New Client Connection, and What Does It Cost?

It’s 2:10 on a Tuesday. Your 1:00 just left, and the next name on the book isn’t until 4:30. You wipe down the chair, check your phone, and do the math you always do in that gap.

Then a booking comes in from someone you’ve never heard of. She found you, picked a service, and chose a time. You didn’t post, text, or chase anyone to make that happen.

That is New Client Connection doing its job. Here is exactly what it is, how it works, and what it costs you.

The short version

  • StyleSeat spends first. We put millions a year into ads to find new clients for you.
  • You pay only on results. No new client, no fee. When one books, you pay once: 30% of her first visit, capped at $50.
  • Then you keep the client. Every rebooking after the first is yours, with no fee. It works alongside your own marketing, not instead of it.
  • What it drove last year: $1,904 in first-year revenue for the average professional using it, against $370 in fees.

What New Client Connection actually is

New Client Connection is StyleSeat’s marketing budget working for you, paid for only when it works. StyleSeat spends millions a year in ads so that someone searching for a braider or a barber finds you. The marketplace sees 74M+ visits a year, with 2M+ clients actively searching.

We carry the risk of all that spend. If nobody new books you this month, you pay nothing for it. When someone does, you pay a one-time fee on that first visit. After that, she’s your client.

New Client Connection works alongside the marketing you already do. It doesn’t replace your Instagram, your email and text marketing, your collabs, or any other channel you like. It adds new clients to what you already do.

Ads you run yourself cost you up front whether or not anyone books. New Client Connection costs you only after she’s sat in your chair.

How it works, start to finish

A new client finds you and requests an appointment. She’s booking through the StyleSeat marketplace, not from your Instagram or a referral. You get a notification with the service, the time, and your estimated earnings.

You have 24 hours to respond. If the appointment is sooner than that, you have until two hours before it starts. Repeatedly declining lowers your ranking in search, so answer the ones you can take.

Or let StyleSeat accept for you. Under Marketing Suite → Programs → New Client Connections → Settings, there’s an Auto-accept new clients setting. You can choose Last-minute requests only (the default), All requests, or Off — I’ll respond myself. Auto-accepting does not count against you.

She comes in, you do the service, and the fee is charged after. Not at booking. The first appointment runs through StyleSeat Payments, and the fee comes out once the service is complete.

She rebooks, and that’s yours. Second visit, tenth visit, the referral she sends you — none of it carries a New Client Connection fee. The fee is once per new client, ever.

And if you’d rather not take new clients right now, you can turn New Client Connection off. Your book is yours to manage.

What it costs

The new client fee is 30% of the first visit’s service price, capped at $50. It’s charged on the service only, never on the tip. Here is what that looks like on real tickets, assuming a 20% tip.

First-visit serviceNew client fee (30%, $50 cap)You take home (with a 20% tip)
$45 cut$13.50$40.50
$100 silk press$30.00$90.00
$200 color$50.00 (the cap)$190.00
$600 balayage$50.00 (the cap)$670.00

Notice the last row. The cap means the fee never grows past $50, whatever the service costs. And every visit after that first one is at full price, no fee.

Two more things about cost. New Client Connection fees are $0 during your 21-day free trial. And the fee is separate from your $35 a month subscription (with a promotion running at $19), which covers booking, payments, and marketing. The new client fee covers only clients StyleSeat brought you.

What it’s worth — priced on both sides

A fee only means something next to what it earned. Here are both sides.

The side where it works. In a professional’s first year, New Client Connection drove an average of $1,904 in service revenue. Fees on that revenue averaged $370. Net, the average professional kept about $1,534 from clients she didn’t have before, and that’s before any of them rebooked.

If StyleSeat sends you nobody in a given month, you pay nothing for New Client Connection that month. No new client, no fee. That’s the whole deal.

Run it on your own numbers. Take the new clients you’d expect in a month. Multiply by your price for a first visit, then by how many times a year a client rebooks. Subtract the one-time fee per new client — 30% of that first visit, up to $50. A barber at $45 every three weeks and a colorist at $250 twice a year land in different places.

An example with the assumption stated. Say three new clients find you this year, each at $110 a visit. Let’s say they book with you 2.5 times throughout the year. That’s $275 a client, or $825 in all. The one-time fee is $33 a client, $99 in total. You keep $726 from clients you didn’t have before. Your numbers will differ, so swap in your own price and your own rebooking pattern.

For scale, Top Pros using New Client Connection average $9,800 a year and 120+ new clients.

The client you didn’t have to chase

Think about what a new client usually costs you that never shows up on an invoice. The post you took forty minutes to film. The DMs you answered between appointments, half of which never booked.

A New Client Connection booking skips all of that. She arrives having already chosen you, already seen your work and your prices, already committed to a time. You get to spend the hour on the thing you went to school for. Her hair, her brows, her lashes — not your funnel.

Then the part that compounds. Clients who come through the marketplace rebook with you directly, in the same app. The first visit is the only one StyleSeat charges for. The rest of the relationship is yours.

How the fee compares

Other platforms charge for new clients too, where they send any. The rate is half the story; the ceiling is the other half.

PlatformNew-client fee on the first visitCeiling
StyleSeat New Client Connection30%, once per client$50
Booksy Boost30%, $10 minimum$100
Fresha marketplace fee20%, $6 minimumA cap Fresha does not publish
GlossGeniusNo marketplace, so no new clients sent—

Prices as published on each company’s pricing and help pages, checked October 2026.

On that $600 balayage, StyleSeat’s fee stops at $50. Booksy’s 30% would be $180, and its own ceiling holds it to $100. Fresha’s 20% is $120, unless its unpublished cap lands lower — and you can’t look that up. GlossGenius has no marketplace, so it cannot send you a client at any price.

One more thing none of those platforms do: raise your price when demand is high. StyleSeat’s Smart Pricing does. Professionals who use it average $385 a year in extra service revenue, and the top 10% clear $1,000+. If your book is already full, that may matter to you more than new clients.

Who New Client Connection is for

It’s built for the professional with an open chair. She’s great at the work and tired of being her own marketing department. Turn it on, answer the requests, and let the marketplace do the finding.

It’s also fine to be the professional whose book is already full. You can turn New Client Connection off and keep everything else at $35 a month, with a promotion running at $19. That includes Smart Pricing, which earns more from the hours you already work. Neither is the grown-up choice. They’re built for different stages of the same career.

Questions professionals ask

What is StyleSeat’s New Client Connection fee?

It’s a one-time fee you pay only when StyleSeat brings you a new client. It’s 30% of that client’s first-visit service price, capped at $50, charged after the service. Rebookings carry no fee, and it’s $0 during the 21-day free trial.

Does StyleSeat charge 30% on all my bookings?

No. The new client fee applies once, to the first visit of a client the marketplace sent you. Your existing clients, your referrals, and every rebooking after that first visit carry no New Client Connection fee.

Is the fee charged on the tip?

No. The fee is calculated on the service price only. On a $100 service with a 20% tip, the fee is $30 and you take home $90.

How long do I have to respond to a new client request?

24 hours, or until two hours before the appointment if it’s booked sooner than that. You can also set StyleSeat to auto-accept last-minute requests, all requests, or none, under New Client Connections → Settings. Auto-accepting does not count against you.

Can I turn New Client Connection off?

Yes. New Client Connection is optional, and you can turn it off whenever you want. Your subscription (currently $35 a month, with a promotion running at $19) and the rest of your tools stay the same.

Does New Client Connection replace my own marketing?

No. It works alongside your Instagram, your email and text marketing, your collabs, and any other channel you use. It adds new clients to what you already do.

How much do professionals actually earn from it?

In their first year, professionals using New Client Connection averaged $1,904 in service revenue from it, against $370 in fees. Top Pros using it average $9,800 a year and 120+ new clients. Results depend on your prices, your market, and how open your book is.

The chair is going to fill either way

You can fill it yourself, with posts and DMs and the occasional discount for a stranger. Or you can let a marketplace that spends millions a year in ads do the finding. Then pay once, only when it works.

Either way, the 4:30 is still coming. The question is what you’d like to do with 2:10.
