StyleSeat Smart Pricing: How It Works and What It Costs
By Olori Swank · Last updated October 9, 2026
Your Saturdays book out three weeks ahead. Your Tuesdays don’t. And both cost the same.
Every pro with a full weekend knows this feeling. The 10 a.m. Saturday slot is worth more than the 2 p.m. Tuesday one. Raising your Saturday price by hand, though, means awkward texts and a price list nobody reads.
Smart Pricing does that part for you. Here’s what it does, what it costs, and how to stay in charge of it.
The short answer: Smart Pricing raises your price on your busiest slots, up to 20%, and most of the increase is yours. StyleSeat’s fee is 5.5% of the service, capped at $16.50. It comes out before your payout. You can turn it off, or limit it to certain services or clients.
How Smart Pricing works
StyleSeat looks at your booking patterns and finds the times that fill up first. On those slots, it raises your price, up to 20%. The client sees the higher price, labeled as a high-demand time, before they book.
Clients who want your regular price can book a different slot. Clients who want Saturday at 10 pay a little more for it.
Smart Pricing needs StyleSeat Payments turned on, because those appointments are paid through StyleSeat. To set it up, open the app and go to More, then Payments and Policies, then Smart Pricing.
What it costs, in real numbers
StyleSeat’s fee is 5.5% of the service, and it never goes above $16.50.
Say a $100 color books at $120 on a Saturday. Smart Pricing added $20. StyleSeat’s fee on that appointment is $6.60 at most.
Here’s how it adds up over a year. Professionals who use Smart Pricing average $385 a year in extra service revenue, and the top 10% clear $1,000+. StyleSeat’s 5.5% is about $187 of that $385, on average.
That’s a measured average, not a promise. Your number depends on your price, the share of your slots that book out, and the increase you set. Multiply those three for a rough idea.
You stay in charge
You decide where Smart Pricing applies. You can:
- choose services. Turn it on for your most popular services and off for the rest.
- protect your regulars. Mark a client as a VIP, and she’ll never see a Smart Pricing price.
- limit it to new clients. Your existing clients see your standard prices at every time.
- skip one appointment. Open the appointment and tap Disable Smart Pricing. That one goes back to your listed price.
- turn it off. You can switch it off completely in the Smart Pricing settings.
The default tip on Smart Pricing appointments
Smart Pricing appointments come with an automatic tip step. Right after the service, your client gets a text with a link to set their tip. A 20% tip is filled in by default.
The client can raise it, lower it or remove it for one hour after the appointment ends. Then their card is charged for the service and the tip together. That means you get paid on a predictable schedule, without chasing a tip.
Who Smart Pricing is for
Smart Pricing pays off on slots that were already filling. So it’s built for the pro whose book is full. She doesn’t need more hours. She needs her best hours to pay more.
If your afternoons are still open, Smart Pricing won’t do much yet. That’s where New Client Connection does the heavy lifting, by sending you clients to fill them.
Where the confusion comes from
- “StyleSeat raises my prices.” It raises them only where you’ve turned it on, by up to 20%.
- “StyleSeat keeps the increase.” StyleSeat’s fee is 5.5% of the service, capped at $16.50. The rest of the increase goes to you.
- “My clients got charged a tip.” That’s the default 20% on Smart Pricing appointments. Clients can change it for an hour.
- Different numbers in different places. Older StyleSeat pages describe Smart Pricing differently. The numbers in this article are current as of October 6, 2026.
What this means for you
- If your book is full, Smart Pricing is how your best hours earn more.
- StyleSeat’s fee is 5.5%, never more than $16.50 per appointment.
- You can protect regulars with VIP status, limit it by service, or turn it off.
