Sexual advances and harassment from clients is common in the beauty industry and for female business owners, this can be a particularly difficult obstacle to overcome. Our founder and CEO, Melody McCloskey, strongly believes in empowering entrepreneurs, in particular women, who may face unique challenges like these in the workplace. Melody recently shared her thoughts with TIME and spoke about her commitment to fighting sexism.

“…as a female founder and CEO, if I don’t do something about this, then who will?”

To start, she stresses the importance of setting a standard of zero tolerance for this type of behavior within your company. The StyleSeat team is more than 50% female, and it is important to her that everyone feels respected and treated equally.

She urges female executives to start mentoring young women early in their career and asks everyone to be better at supporting female business owners by “patronizing their operations and being good customers who return and refer.”
