Fresha vs StyleSeat: What Professionals Pay in 2026
It’s Sunday night and you’re on the couch with your phone, scrolling next week. Two retwists. A starter-loc consult who has already rescheduled once. A regular who wants her Thursday moved to Saturday, which means bumping somebody.
You are not thinking about booking software. You are thinking about Saturday.
Then the email lands and your booking app is changing what it costs. If that app is Fresha, 2026 is the year the word free stopped being used. Fresha announced on its own blog that it’s moving off free-forever. The new rate is $19.95 a month for one team member, or $14.95 a month per team member on Team. So here’s Fresha vs StyleSeat on the two lines that matter. There’s the monthly one, and the one that shows up only when somebody new books.
Short version
- Fresha moved off free-forever to $19.95/month (one team member) or $14.95/month per team member (Team) in 2026. Its new-client fee is 20% of the first visit, one time, $6 minimum, cap shared after you subscribe.
- StyleSeat’s New Client Connection fee is 30% of the first service, capped at $50. It fires once per client, after the service.
- On a $400 install Fresha’s 20% is $80, and StyleSeat’s stops at $50.
- StyleSeat is $35/month standing, promoted at $19/month right now, with a 21-day free trial.
Fresha’s free era ended in 2026
Fresha built its reputation on one word. Free forever, no subscription, keep your money. For a loc tech starting out with four regulars and a folding table, that was a real offer. It worked. A subscription isn’t a scandal — most of this category runs on one. It matters because free was the argument. With a monthly line on both sides, the comparison moves to the fees that were never free anywhere.
| Line item | StyleSeat | Fresha |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly subscription | $35/month standing; promoted at $19/month | $19.95/mo (1 team member) or $14.95/mo per team member (Team) |

| Card processing | 2.5% + $0.30 card present; 2.6% + $0.30 card on file | Learn what their processing fee is after you subscribe |
| Demand-based pricing | Smart Pricing raises a booked-out slot, up to 20%; 5.5% of the service, capped at $16.50 | Does not have |

The part no fee table covers
A four-hour retwist isn’t a transaction. It’s a woman in your chair telling you about her mother, her promotion, the man she isn’t sure about. Meanwhile your hands do work she can’t see and couldn’t describe. She brings her daughter. She learns your playlist. She texts you a photo in month three because she wants you to see the locs held.
None of that shows up in a percentage, and it’s the actual asset. A client who costs $50 once and stays nine years isn’t a fee, she’s the business. Nobody sat you down in school and explained cost of acquisition. So what did the last new person in your chair cost you? And are you still paying for her?
What the $35 buys besides the calendar
StyleSeat’s first argument is the one a scheduler structurally can’t make: it buys the demand. StyleSeat spends millions a year on Google, Meta and Apple ads on pros’ behalf. Those ads land on a marketplace with 74M+ visits a year and 2M+ clients searching. Top Pros using New Client Connection see about $9,800 a year in new-client revenue and 120+ new clients. Fresha runs a marketplace too — a real point in its favor, since Acuity, Square and GlossGenius have none.
The second argument usually decides it for a pro whose book is already decent. The marketing tools sit inside the base price. Email and text marketing, client reminders and an automated booking assistant are all in there. So are business analytics, promotions, loyalty, AI social posts and review management. Elsewhere those are separate plans and add-ons. GlossGenius charges $56 a month for Gold, the plan with 2,500 text credits and advanced analytics. Vagaro lists at $30 for one staff member, plus $10 a month for each additional one. It also sells text and email marketing as paid extras.
All of it is $35 a month standing, with a promotion running at $19 a month. The trial is 21 days with booking, new-client and Smart Pricing fees waived. So you can watch what the marketplace sends before a fee posts. Reminders and booking confirmations come with the subscription. The personalized texts you send yourself run on SMS credits, 500 for free with an additional 1,500 for $10. Every fee is listed in the help center pricing article.
The fee that pays you back
One of those fees is worth reading as revenue. Smart Pricing raises the price of a slot that books out, by up to 20%. It takes 5.5% of the service, capped at $16.50. Over the last twelve months, professionals who use it earned $385 a year in extra service revenue on average. The busiest tenth of those professionals clear over $1,000 a year from it. Measured across a professional’s first year, New Client Connection appointments carried $1,904 in service revenue on average.
Who is genuinely better off somewhere else
Say you run commission stylists and need payroll, real inventory with stock counts, or several locations. Mangomint and Boulevard specialize in exactly that, and they’re good at it. StyleSeat supports staff calendars today at no extra cost. A small-salon version is in beta, with a receptionist and shared calendars. Multi-location still isn’t its game. Questions pros actually ask
Is Fresha still free in 2026?
No. Fresha moved from free-forever to a paid subscription in 2026, disclosed on its own blog. The rate is $19.95 a month for one team member, or $14.95 a month per team member on Team. Fresha’s new-client fee is 20% of a new client’s first visit, charged one time, with a $6 minimum. It also caps per client, though Fresha shares that number only once you subscribe. StyleSeat is $35 a month standing, currently promoted at $19 a month with no extra fees for additional professionals.
Pick the fee that matches your chair
This isn’t really Fresha vs StyleSeat. It’s percentage versus ceiling, and the answer is on your own service menu. If your work is long and expensive, the cap is where the money is. Think installs, starter locs, color corrections. One $50 fee for a client who stays four years is the cheapest marketing you’ll ever buy.
Either way you know which line to look at now. You can stop taking anybody’s word for it, ours included. Find your average first-visit price and run it. Then go fill Saturday.
