Boulevard Alternatives for Small Salons and Suites

Boulevard Alternatives for Small Salons and Suites

Last updated October 14, 2026 · By StyleSeat Editorial Team

Your receptionist called in sick, so today you are the front desk.

Between a consult and a root touch-up, you open the quote. It prices by location, and the number depends on headcount. You count five: you, three stylists, and an apprentice with her own book.

Then you notice the small print. The published figures carry a 10% annual discount, so not one of them is a monthly rate.

Boulevard alternatives separate on two numbers. The monthly rate at your real staff count, and whether anything in it brings you a client. A front desk you pay per location is a different purchase from a chair you need to fill.

Short version

  • Boulevard prices per location, and its published figures already carry a 10% annual discount. Ask for the monthly rate at your staff count.
  • Count the people who take bookings first. At four, Vagaro runs $60 a month and Mangomint $160.
  • Four alternatives list you to clients who are already searching: StyleSeat, Booksy, Fresha and Vagaro. Square Go adds a free profile.
  • StyleSeat is $35 a month, with a promotion running at $19, after a 21-day free trial. A new client costs 30% of the first visit, capped at $50.

What Boulevard’s pricing page leaves to a phone call

Boulevard sells by location, and its tiers gate on how many professionals work there. Essentials covers up to five. Cross that line and the location moves up, whatever your revenue did that month.

So send one email before you budget. Ask for the monthly rate at your real staff count, and ask what happens the month you hire a sixth. Ask for the card processing rate too, because Boulevard publishes none.

What two, four and six chairs cost on each one

One person is a cheap customer anywhere. The models only separate once a second calendar opens.

The Boulevard alternatives, and who each is built for

Mangomint

$120 a month per location, plus $10 per user, with payroll at $50 plus $8 a worker. It specializes in a staffed front desk.

Vagaro

$30 a month for one location and one bookable calendar, then $10 per added licence, up to seven. Payroll and stock-level inventory are its strengths.

Booksy

$29.99 a month, plus $20 for each extra user. Boost charges 30% of a new client’s first visit, with a $10 minimum and a $100 ceiling.

Fresha

$19.95 on Independent for one team member, or $14.95 per team member on Team. A new client costs 20% one time, with a $6 minimum and a cap it does not publish.

Square Appointments

Square Plus is $49 a month per location. No-show fees, confirmations, custom texts, loyalty, waitlists and multi-staff booking arrive there.

StyleSeat

The standing price is $35 a month, with a promotion running at $19. Promotional pricing moves, so confirm before you budget. Staff calendars cost nothing extra, and the marketplace carries 74M+ visits a year.

What a per-location price cannot buy

A subscription prices the desk. It cannot price the person who was supposed to walk up to it. Four of the platforms above list you to clients already searching. Three do not, and they are straight about it.

Price the other side first. Say the marketplace sends two new clients a month. That is 24 across a year. Let’s say your clients book 2.5 times throughout the year, at $120 a visit. One new client is worth $300, and 24 come to $7,200.

StyleSeat spends millions a year in ads to find your next client. Nothing is charged until one of them actually books. Then it is one time per new client: 30% of the first visit, capped at $50, charged after the service. No new client, no fee. Every rebooking afterwards is yours, with no fee at all.

At $120 that fee is $36 per client, so $864 across all 24. Net, the marketplace put $6,336 in your column. On the first visit: $120 service, $36 fee, $24 tip, so you take home $108, assuming a 20% tip. You can run the per-client math yourself.

What a filling chair is allowed to charge

GlossGenius, Booksy, Square and Vagaro all leave your price where you set it. Fresha lets you pick the days and windows where a price sits higher.

StyleSeat’s SmartPricing finds the slot that is filling up and raises the price, up to 20%. StyleSeat charges about 5.5% of a smart-priced appointment, capped at $16.50. Professionals who use it average $385 a year in extra service revenue, and the busiest tenth clear over $1,000.

This post is written for two owners. One still has chairs to fill. The other is booked out, and wants those hours to pay more. Who carries the risk on ads is the other half of that question.

The part the feature table never covers

A small salon runs on things no platform measures. The regular who brings her daughter now. The apprentice learning to section cleanly. The ten minutes before open when the music is on and nobody has walked in.

You did not get into this to compare software. Software should protect that Tuesday, not crowd it.

How this works on StyleSeat

Everyone who takes bookings gets a calendar, and those calendars cost nothing extra. Shared calendars with a receptionist are in beta. Your booking page stays yours.

Someone who finds you there comes through as a request. You have 24 hours to respond, and less if the appointment is sooner.

Inside the month sit email and text marketing, reminders and an automated booking assistant. Analytics, promotions, loyalty and review management come too. Outbound texts run on credits: 500 free, then 750 for $5.

The 21-day trial needs no card. Card processing, new-client fees and SmartPricing all cost $0 during it. Here is New Client Connection explained in full. It runs beside your Instagram and your referrals rather than replacing them.

Who this is for

StyleSeat fits you if… you want somebody new in the chairs you already pay rent on. Or your book is full and SmartPricing can earn more from the hours you already work. Or you want staff calendars without a per-seat charge.

Look at Boulevard if… you employ stylists on commission and need payroll, splits and stock-level inventory. Mangomint specializes in that same back office, and what it costs a small shop is worth reading first.

Questions professionals ask

What is Boulevard’s monthly rate at my staff count?

Boulevard does not publish one. Its figures are per location and already carry a 10% annual discount, and the tiers gate on headcount. Essentials covers up to five professionals. Ask Boulevard for the monthly rate at your own staff count before you budget.

Does Boulevard publish a card processing rate?

No, so put that question in the same email as the monthly rate. For comparison, Fresha is 2.29% plus 20 cents card present. StyleSeat is 2.5% plus 30 cents, and 1.9% plus 30 cents for the first six months.

What does a four-person salon pay on each alternative?

Vagaro runs $60 a month and Booksy $89.99. Fresha’s Team plan is $14.95 per team member, so $59.80. Square Plus is $49 per location, Mangomint $160. StyleSeat includes staff calendars, so it stays $35 a month, with a promotion at $19.

Which Boulevard alternatives list me to clients who are already searching?

StyleSeat, Booksy and Fresha each run a consumer marketplace. Vagaro offers a free listing, and neither company publishes its reach. Square Go hands you a free profile. Boulevard does not run one, and nor do Mangomint or GlossGenius.

What does a first visit cost when a marketplace sends somebody?

On StyleSeat it is 30% of the first visit, capped at $50, once per client ever. Booksy’s Boost is also 30%, with a $10 minimum and a $100 ceiling. Fresha charges 20% with a $6 minimum and a cap it does not publish. Vagaro’s Fill My Books charges 20% on a new client, with a ceiling it does not publish. Returning clients cost 5%.

Can any of them charge more for my busiest hours?

Fresha lets you pick the days and windows where a price sits higher. StyleSeat’s SmartPricing detects the busy slot and raises it, up to 20%. StyleSeat charges about 5.5% of the appointment for that, capped at $16.50. Professionals who use it average $385 a year in extra service revenue, and the busiest tenth clear over $1,000.

What comes inside the StyleSeat month?

Email and text marketing, client reminders, an automated booking assistant, analytics, promotions, loyalty and review management. Reminders and confirmations are not metered. The texts you write yourself run on credits, starting with 500 free.

When does a per-location platform earn its price?

When a staffed front desk, payroll and commission splits are genuinely the job. Boulevard and Mangomint specialize there, and Mangomint lists at $120 a month per location. A three-person shop where everyone keeps her own book is buying a desk it does not staff.

Count the people who take bookings, then count your doors. Those two numbers price every platform on this page, and no demo changes either one. StyleSeat is $35 a month, with a promotion running at $19, after 21 free days. You can check what that month covers.

StyleSeat is not affiliated with Boulevard, Mangomint, Booksy, Fresha, Vagaro, GlossGenius or Square. This post is general information, not legal or tax advice.
