Is StyleSeat’s New Client Fee Worth It? The Zoomed-Out Math
By StyleSeat Editorial Team · Last updated October 8, 2026
Thirty percent. Seen next to one appointment, it looks like a lot. Pretending otherwise would insult you.
So let’s not look at one appointment. Let’s look at the whole picture: what the fee covers, what it never touches, and what a new client is worth over a year.
The short answer: For most pros building a book, yes. StyleSeat’s New Client Connection fee is 30% of a new client’s first service, capped at $50. It’s charged once, after the visit happens. Where it was charged, the fee averaged $29. New clients from StyleSeat’s marketplace averaged $219 in service revenue over their first year, before tips.
Start with the part that stings
On a $100 first visit, the fee is $30. That’s real money, and it’s fair to feel it. If you only ever saw that client once, 30% of her one visit would be the whole story.
But a client isn’t one visit. That’s where the camera needs to zoom out.
Zoom out one: the cap
The fee stops at $50, however big the ticket.
| First-visit service | Fee | Share of that visit |
|---|---|---|
| $100 | $30 | 30% |
| $167 | $50 | 30% |
| $300 | $50 | About 17% |
| $600 | $50 | About 8% |
Zoom out two: once means once
After the first visit, the fee is gone for good. Every visit after that is yours, with no New Client Connection fee.
Here’s a hypothetical. Say a new client becomes a regular, booking a $100 service every six weeks. That’s about 8.7 visits and $867 in service revenue in her first year. The $30 fee is about 3.5% of that year.
Not every new client becomes a regular. But the real numbers still favor the fee.
Zoom out three: the real numbers
| New clients from StyleSeat’s marketplace | First 12 months |
|---|---|
| Average fee, where charged | $29 |
| Average service revenue, all new clients | $219 |
| Average service revenue, new clients who came back | $432 over 4.4 visits |
On average, the fee is about one-eighth of what a new client spends in her first year, before tips. For a client who comes back, it’s about one-fifteenth.
Zoom out four: who carried the risk
Before that client ever booked, StyleSeat paid to find her. It runs millions a year in ads across Google, Meta and Apple.
If she had canceled or never shown, you’d owe nothing. StyleSeat carries that risk. With your own ads, the money is spent before you know if anyone books.
How it compares to a commission salon
A commission salon brings in clients. In return, it takes a share of every service you do there, for as long as you stay. New Client Connection takes a share of one visit per client, capped at $50. After that, the relationship is yours.
When it’s not worth it
If your book is full and you don’t want new clients, the fee isn’t buying you anything. Turn New Client Connection off, and your existing book keeps running.
And if a client you already knew was tagged as new by mistake, you shouldn’t pay it. Request a correction, and the fee comes back.
What this means for you
- 30% sounds big against one visit. Against a year, it’s small.
- The fee is capped at $50, charged once, and only after the visit happens.
- If your book is full, turn it off. If it isn’t, it’s working for you.
