Getting Booked From Google, Not Just From StyleSeat

Getting Booked From Google, Not Just From StyleSeat

A woman two neighbourhoods over types “knotless braids near me” into Google. She isn’t on StyleSeat. She isn’t on any booking app — she’s on Google, the way most people start most things.

What she gets back is a map and a list of businesses. Whether you are on that list, and whether there’s a Book button next to your name, is the whole question.

The short version

  • Google Reserve puts a booking action on your Google listing, opening your real availability.
  • It works through your Google Business Profile — that’s the piece most professionals don’t have.
  • Roughly one in ten pros has one, which is why this is worth an hour of your time.
  • Your availability updates through the day, not once a night, so what Google shows is close to live.

What Google Reserve is

Google Reserve lets someone who found you on Google Search or Google Maps start a booking from that listing, instead of having to find you somewhere else afterwards. StyleSeat sends your available times to Google — a full feed daily and updates every half hour through the day — so the slots she sees are close to what your calendar actually has.

The thing to understand is where she is when this happens. She is not browsing a beauty app. She is doing what everybody does: asking Google. Most of your competitors on that results page will make her call, or DM, or fill in a form. You can let her book.

The catch, and it’s a big one

This runs through your Google Business Profile — the free listing that makes your business appear on Google Maps with a name, hours, photos and reviews. If you have one, connecting is a short job. If you don’t, there’s nothing for Google to attach the booking action to.

And most professionals don’t. About one in ten pros on StyleSeat has a Google Business Profile. Which is either a depressing statistic or the most concrete opportunity on this page, depending on how you look at it — nine out of ten of the people you’re competing with in local search have not done a thing that is free and takes an evening.

If you don’t have one, that’s the actual task here. Not the StyleSeat setting — the Google listing. The Marketing Suite page links a setup guide, and it’s worth following properly: real address or service area, correct hours, your best photos, your service categories.

Who this is for

It’s aimed at Premium pros with a physical location in the US. If you work from a suite, a booth or a studio with an address, this is straightforwardly for you.

If you’re mobile or in-home it’s murkier, because a Google Business Profile handles service-area businesses differently and the address question gets complicated. Worth setting the listing up regardless — being findable on Maps has value on its own — but go in expecting to spend time on the service-area settings.

Why a listing is worth the evening anyway

Here’s the thing that makes this worth doing even setting the booking button aside.

Your StyleSeat profile competes with other StyleSeat profiles. Your Google listing competes with everyone — the salon on the corner, the chain three streets over, the woman doing this from her kitchen. And a Google listing has room for things your booking profile doesn’t: your photos again, your hours, questions people ask, and a second set of reviews that lives somewhere else entirely.

You have probably had the experience of a client saying she found you by accident. That is what a Google listing is for. It converts accidents into appointments, and it does it while you’re working.

An evening, then it runs by itself

Claim the listing. Fill it in properly rather than minimally. Then connect it, and let StyleSeat keep your times up to date from there.

The pleasing part is that it’s finished once it’s done. No posting schedule, no upkeep beyond changing your hours when your hours change. It sits on the map being findable, in front of people who were never going to open a booking app to look for you, and some of them will book — from a search you never saw, on a night you weren’t working.

Frequently asked questions

What is Google Reserve?

It lets a client who finds you through Google Search or Google Maps begin booking directly from your Google listing. StyleSeat sends your availability to Google – a full feed each day plus updates every 30 minutes – so the times shown reflect your real calendar.

Do I need anything to use it?

Yes, a Google Business Profile. That is the free Google listing for your business, and the booking action attaches to it. Without one there is nothing for Google to connect to. The Google Reserve page in your Marketing Suite has a connect button and links a setup guide if you need to create one.

Who is eligible?

It is aimed at Premium pros with a physical location in the United States. If you are mobile or work in clients’ homes, a Google Business Profile treats you as a service-area business, which takes more setting up.

Is it worth it if I already get bookings on StyleSeat?

It reaches a different person. Your StyleSeat profile is found by people already looking on StyleSeat, while a Google listing is found by people searching Google generally – which is where most people start. Only about one in ten pros has a Google Business Profile, so it is one of the less contested places to be visible.
