Your 10 a.m. retwist went beautifully, she tipped well, she rebooked for six weeks. Then you had four hours with nobody in the chair.

Your software worked perfectly all day. Confirmations went out, the deposit cleared, the reminder fired on time. It just didn’t know one person searching for a loc tech in your city that morning.

That’s the gap nobody puts on a pricing page. Most salon booking software is excellent at organizing the clients you have and unable to find you a new one. So the real question isn’t which platform is best. It’s which salon booking software actually sends clients, and what a new client costs.

Short version

Of the eleven platforms below, three run a consumer marketplace: StyleSeat, Booksy, Fresha. Seven have none, so their new-client fee is $0.

StyleSeat: 30% of the first service, capped at $50, once per client and only on clients that it drives you. Booksy Boost: one-time 30% with no cap. Fresha: 20%, $6 minimum no cap on the client fee. It’s up to you to decide if the clients Booksy and Fresha drive were driven by you or the platform

Your real number is fee ÷ rebook rate. A $50 fee at a 60% rebook rate is about $83 per client who stays.

StyleSeat spends millions a year in ads for pros: 74M+ visits, 2M+ clients searching, 16,000 US cities.

Only three of these platforms have anyone to send you

There’s a line down the middle of this category, and it isn’t about features. On one side sit platforms with a consumer marketplace, where a stranger types “silk press near me” and gets real pros with real openings. On the other sit schedulers: fast, often cheaper, closed. They hold your calendar and have no audience to hand you, which is why they charge nothing for a new client — the marketing stays yours. Vagaro is the in-between case: it has a listing, and how much traffic that listing delivers isn’t something we could verify, so treat its reach as unknown.

Which salon booking software sends clients, and what one costs

Platform

Marketplace or directory

Can it send you a client?

What a new client costs

StyleSeat

Marketplace, 16,000 cities

Yes

30% of first service, capped $50, once per client, after the service, tip excluded

Booksy

Marketplace

Yes

Boost: one-time 30% of that client’s first visit; optional

Fresha

Marketplace

Yes

20% one-time, $6 minimum

Vagaro

Listing; reach not verified

Unverified

$0

GlossGenius

None

No

$0

Square Appointments

None

No

$0

Acuity Scheduling

None

No

$0

Setmore

None

No

$0

Goldie

None

No

$0

Mangomint

None

No

$0

Boulevard

None

No

$0

Marketplace reach and new-client cost by platform. Verified August 2026 from each company’s own pricing pages; subscription cost is separate everywhere here.

Know your cost per new client, and how to get more at a price that is profitable

An industry-average cost per client is a guess. The real number depends on your ticket, your market, and mostly on whether she comes back. Two formulas beat any benchmark.

Real cost per client = the fee on the first visit ÷ your rebook rate. A lash artist charging $120 pays 30% on StyleSeat — $36 — and keeps $84 plus the whole tip, so $108 with a 20% tip. If half her new clients book again, her true cost per client who stays is $72.

Payback = the fee ÷ what you keep on one visit. A barber charging $45 pays $13.50 and keeps $40.50 assuming a 20% tip — repaid before the second cut ends. A $400 loc install hits the $50 cap, 12.5% of one appointment. Then set that against average ticket × visits per year: a six-week client at $120 is roughly $1,238 a year, assuming 20% tip, at no further acquisition cost.

The three acquisition fees, side by side

StyleSeat’s New Client Connection fee is 30% of a new client’s first service, capped at $50, charged once per client and only after the appointment is complete. Tips are excluded, and every appointment she books afterward carries no new-client fee. Mechanics are in the New Client Connection help article.

Booksy’s Boost is a one-time 30% of a Boost client’s first visit. Same percentage, same trigger, also optional — so any “Booksy doesn’t take a cut of new clients” framing is contradicted by their own pricing page. The difference is that Booksy doesn’t have a fee cap, which means for an service above $150, you are paying more for that client than StyleSeat.

Fresha charges 20% of a new client’s first visit, with a $6 minimum. On mid-priced work that’s the cheaper acquisition: 20% of a $200 color is $40 against StyleSeat’s $50 cap. This means on a $400 install 20% is $80 while StyleSeat’s cap holds at $50.

Don’t just think about getting a new client, but also keeping them

Make sure you consider not just how to get one time clients but how to keep them and bring them back more frequently

What StyleSeat is buying with that 30%

A marketplace only sends clients if somebody is paying to fill it. StyleSeat spends millions of dollars a year on Google, Meta and Apple ads for pros, which produces 74M+ visits a year, 2M+ clients actively searching, and coverage across 16,000 US cities. A scheduler can’t match that at any price; it isn’t in the business of buying demand. Top Pros using New Client Connection report $9,800 a year in new-client revenue and 120+ new clients a year — Top Pro figures, not an all-pro average.

The other half of the value sits in the subscription. Premium is normally $35 a month, currently promoted at $19, and that price includes email and text marketing, client reminders, an automated booking assistant, business analytics, promotions, a loyalty program, an AI social post builder and review management. GlossGenius’s comparable tier is Gold at $56 a month billed monthly, where you get 2,500 text credits and advanced analytics. Every fee is listed in the help center’s cost article and our cost breakdown. The honest claim isn’t that StyleSeat is cheap — it’s that you pay more only when StyleSeat made you more, with a $50 ceiling per client and nothing upfront. See the $19 promotion against the standing $35.

Who should pick a scheduler instead

If your book is full and the problem is admin, a marketplace fee buys something you don’t need — a massage therapist with a six-week waitlist is better served by Acuity or Setmore which are cheaper. If you’re running commission stylists and need payroll, real inventory or several locations, Mangomint and Boulevard specialize in exactly that and are good at it. StyleSeat supports staff calendars today at no extra cost and has a small-salon tier in beta, but commission splits and payroll aren’t live yet.

FAQ

Which salon booking software actually sends you clients?

Three platforms run a consumer marketplace that can deliver a client who has never heard your name: StyleSeat, Booksy and Fresha. Vagaro has a listing whose reach isn’t verifiable. GlossGenius, Square Appointments, Acuity, Setmore, Goldie, Mangomint and Boulevard have no marketplace or directory, so they charge no new-client fee.

What does a new client cost on each platform?

StyleSeat’s New Client Connection fee is 30% of the new client’s first service, capped at $50, charged once per client and only after the appointment. Booksy’s Boost is a one-time 30% of that client’s first visit with no cap. Fresha charges 20% with a $6 minimum also with no cap. The seven platforms without a marketplace charge $0, and send nothing.

How do I calculate my own cost per new client?

Divide the platform’s fee on the first visit by your rebook rate. A $50 fee at a 60% rebook rate is about $83 per client who stays; a $36 fee at a 50% rebook rate is $72. Compare that to average ticket × visits per year: a six-week client at $120 is roughly $1,040 a year.

Pick for the problem you actually have

Go look at last week — not your revenue, the holes. If they’re there because your systems are messy, a scheduler fixes that. If they’re there because not enough people in your city know your name yet, only three platforms are in the conversation. An empty Tuesday isn’t a verdict on your talent. It’s a distribution problem, and distribution is something you can buy.

Last updated August 28, 2026 by the StyleSeat editorial team

{"@context":"https://schema.org","@type":"FAQPage","mainEntity":[
{"@type":"Question","name":"Which salon booking software actually sends you clients?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"Three platforms run a consumer marketplace that can deliver a client who has never heard your name: StyleSeat, Booksy and Fresha.
