Swap in your own ticket. The last two columns are measured, not modelled: what New Client Connection and Smart Pricing earned the average professional on StyleSeat over the twelve months ending September 3, 2026, before StyleSeat’s own fees on that revenue. Those fees are broken out below.

Read those last two columns as the other side of the same ledger — and note that they are measured rather than modelled. Over the last twelve months, New Client Connection earned the average professional on StyleSeat $1,904 in new-client revenue in the first year; half cleared $633 or more, and the top tenth cleared $5,354. The fee behind that is small and one-time on barber tickets: 30% of the first service, $12 on a $40 cut, capped at $50, never charged again.

Across every appointment those new clients went on to book, the average professional paid $370 — about 19% of what they earned from them, not 30%, because only the first visit carries a rate. Booksy’s Boost charges the same 30% of a first visit, with a $100 cap per new client, but publishes no per-professional figure to put in that column. GlossGenius, Mangomint and Square keep $0 of it, because $0 is what arrives.

Smart Pricing raises the price on the slots everyone wants — the 5:30 on a Friday — and it is measured the same way. Pros using Smart Pricing averaged $385 a year in extra service revenue, before StyleSeat’s cut of it, which runs about 5.5% of a smart-priced service, or roughly $187 of that $385. The busiest 10% cleared $1,000 or more. So if your Friday evenings already fill, this is money you are currently not charging for. If your afternoons are quiet, the column to its left is the one that pays you.

None of the other four publishes a demand-based pricing tool at all, which means the only way to charge more for a Friday evening anywhere else is to charge more for Tuesday morning too — a cost that never appears on anybody’s fee page.

Put the two halves together, fees and all:

A year on StyleSeat, per professional

Average

New-client revenue through New Client Connection (median $633)

$1,904

Extra revenue from Smart Pricing (median $77)

$385

Total new revenue

$2,289

New Client Connection fee (30% of a first visit, $50 max)

−$370

Smart Pricing fee (5.5% of the service, $16.50 max)

−$187

The subscription ($35 a month)

−$420

Total charged by StyleSeat

−$977

What StyleSeat makes you after you pay the fees on average in year 1

$1,312

StyleSeat appointment data, twelve months ending September 3, 2026. Square and GlossGenius charge nothing for acquisition because neither does any — a real trade, honestly made. And Booksy’s Boost charges the same 30% of a first visit that New Client Connection does — and its published ceiling is $100, twice StyleSeat’s $50 — so that difference is optionality, not absence.

What it costs when the platform does fill Tuesday

So price the other side of that row. A stranger opens the app on a Tuesday morning, sees your work, books the 11:00. He is a $40 cut, so New Client Connection takes $12 — 30% of the first service, one time. Not monthly. Not every visit. Once per client, ever. The $50 ceiling never comes up on barber tickets; you would need a $167 service to reach it.

He likes the fade. Comes back every three weeks, the way they do when you get the taper right. Here is what that $12 turns into:

His visit

Billed to date

New-client fee to date

Effective cut of his spend

1st

$40

$12

30%

2nd

$80

$12

15%

4th

$160

$12

7.5%

8th

$320

$12

3.8%

17th (one year, every three weeks)

$680

$12

1.8%

One-time 30% on a $40 first cut, held flat while he keeps coming back. Card processing not included.

Now set that against the hole it filled. An 11:00 nobody books costs you $40 and never pays it back — that is the $8,320 a year, four slots a week, invisible on every statement you have ever read. Filling one costs $12 the first time and nothing the next sixteen. And the fee only fires when the platform actually brought you somebody you did not have: no new client, no charge. It is the one line on the bill that cannot cost you money without having made you some first.

Which is the honest version of the whole comparison. A platform with no marketplace charges nothing for acquisition and leaves Tuesday exactly as it is. A platform with one charges once, up front, on the first cut — and then gets out of the way while your hands do the part that keeps him in the chair.

The part that has nothing to do with fees

Nobody taps a card for a haircut. They tap for the four minutes you spent on one temple because the growth pattern there fights you, and for knowing without asking this guy wants it tighter than last time. You have a kid whose first haircut happened in your chair, nine now, who tells you about his season, and a man on the same 8am every other Saturday, six years running. You built that with your hands, two weeks at a time. Software has one job: keep the chair full.

What StyleSeat costs a barber, and what the extra buys

StyleSeat is $35 a month standing, with a promotion running at $19 right now. Card-present processing is 2.5% + $0.30, a card on file 2.6% + $0.30; the trial is 21 days with booking and growth fees waived. Your client pays $2.35 at booking — not you — and StyleSeat ties that fee to an 80%+ drop in no-shows. Every fee is listed here.

Now what the $624 buys. StyleSeat spends millions a year on Google, Meta and Apple ads pointed at pros’ books, which is why 2M+ clients search the marketplace and why Top Pros using New Client Connection average $9,800 a year in new-client revenue and 120+ new clients. When it sends you someone you did not have, the fee is 30% of that first service — $12 on a $40 cut, capped at $50, charged after the cut, once per client and never again. A regular at $40 every two weeks is $1,040 a year. Twelve dollars, one time.

The marketing tools come with the price rather than sitting on top of it: email and text marketing, reminders, an automated booking assistant, analytics, promotions, loyalty, an AI Social Post Builder, review management. One thing to be precise about, because you will meet it in the app. Your appointment reminders and booking confirmations are included and are not metered — they cost you nothing per send.

The texts you write yourself, the Tuesday at 3 just opened, want it? ones, run on SMS credits you buy as you go: 1,500 for $10, or 750 for $5, no monthly minimum, and nothing at all in a month you do not send. GlossGenius gets you to 2,500 text credits and advanced analytics at $56 a month for Gold, billed whether you send or not. Sixteen extra cuts a year — $624 ÷ $40 — covers the processing difference; the texting difference is $10 against $56, and 1,500 texts is more than most barbers send in a month. See what the $19 promotion covers.

Where a shop owner should look elsewhere

If you own the shop and cut checks — commission splits, payroll, real inventory, two locations — StyleSeat is not the tool for that. Mangomint and Boulevard specialize in exactly that and are good at it. Staff calendars are supported today at no extra cost, and a small-salon setup with a receptionist and shared calendars is in beta — but if you need payroll, start with the specialists. If you rent a chair or cut in your own shop — the line items on opening one are here — you are the pro this was priced for.

Questions barbers ask about POS costs

What does StyleSeat cost in the first year, are there hidden fees?

StyleSeat costs $35/month on promotion for $19/month. It costs 2.5% + $.30 a transaction. StyleSeat earns the average professional $2,289 they wouldnt have earned otherwise in the first year from new clients and Smart Pricing alone. After fees and subscription this nets $1,312.

Do I have to buy a card reader?

Not on StyleSeat. Tap to Pay lets a client tap a card or phone against your phone at the card-present rate of 2.5% + $0.30, and Quick Charge rings up a walk-in without building a full appointment. A reader is available if you prefer glass on the counter.

Pick for the revenue maker, not the cheaper tap

Run it on your own ticket: rate times ticket, plus the flat fee, times a month of cuts. Then look at your Tuesdays. If they are full, buy the cheapest tap and enjoy it — you solved the harder problem already. If they are not, you have found the thing worth spending on, and it was never the terminal.

Last updated September 4, 2026 · By StyleSeat Editorial Team.

{"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"BlogPosting","headline":"Barbershop POS System Costs for Professionals in 2026","author":{"@type":"Organization","name":"StyleSeat Editorial Team"},"publisher":{"@type":"Organization","name":"StyleSeat"},"datePublished":"2026-08-31","dateModified":"2026-09-04"},{"@type":"FAQPage","mainEntity":[{"@type":"Question","name":"What does a barbershop POS system cost per haircut?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"On a $40 haircut paid in person, processing runs $1.04 to $1.30: GlossGenius $1.04 at a flat 2.6%, Booksy $1.10 at 2.49% + $0.10, Mangomint $1.13 at 2.45% + $0.15, Square $1.14 at 2.6% + $0.10, StyleSeat $1.30 at 2.5% + $0.30 — $208 to $260 a month at 200 cuts."}},{"@type":"Question","name":"Why does the 30-cent fee matter more than the percentage?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"Because a flat fee is a bigger share of a small ticket.
