There’s an Employees tab. One row in it — your name, your photo, your entire staff. Nothing there is broken. It’s built for a shop with a front desk and somebody who pulls reports on Monday. Your front desk is you, between a gel-X set and a fill. That’s why solo pros go looking at Vagaro alternatives. Not because the calendar failed — because it might not necessarily support your top needs.

The summary:

Vagaro lists at $30 a month for one staff member and adds $10 for each additional one. The base covers one bookable calendar; email and text marketing are add-ons — text marketing starts at $20 a month.

Vagaro’s new-client fee is $0 — and so is the fee at seven of the ten below, because none of those seven runs a marketplace at all.

Sort on two columns: what the price does when you add a person, and whether anything is looking for clients.

StyleSeat is $35 a month standing, promoted at $19 right now, with email and text marketing, reminders and analytics in the base price. Card present is 2.5% + $0.30.

Vagaro, fairly: $30 for one staff member, $10 a month for each additional one

Vagaro is good software with a deep bench in nails, barbering and wellness. It lists at $30 a month for one staff member, and every staff member after that adds $10. Processing is advertised as “as low as 2.2%” — their claim, and the floor of a range. And credit on the biggest line: Vagaro takes nothing when a new client books.

The ladder is the part you have to click through the pricing page to see. Vagaro’s $30 covers one person. Every staff member after that adds $10 a month — so two chairs is $40, three is $50, seven is $90 — while StyleSeat’s $35 carries staff calendars at no extra cost. Vagaro crosses StyleSeat’s price at your second staff member, and the gap widens with every chair you add.

People taking bookings

Vagaro

StyleSeat

1

$30/mo list

$35/mo, promotion at $19

2

$40/mo

$35

3

$50/mo

$35

7

$90/mo

$35

What surprises solo pros is what sits outside the base. Email and text marketing are paid add-ons — Vagaro’s own trial FAQ leaves them out of the free trial — and its add-on menu does price them — text marketing from $20 a month, Forms and the Online Shopping Cart $10 each. Stacked on the base, the bundle a solo pro needs runs about $70 a month. Price the add-ons you’d use before the trial converts; our breakdown of Vagaro pricing goes line by line.

Two columns sort the list: how the price scales, and who’s looking for clients

A platform priced by staff is solving the shop’s problem, and the shop’s problem. Not yours. Yours is a Thursday with three holes in it.

The second column is the one most roundups skip. Acuity, Setmore, Goldie, Mangomint and Boulevard run no marketplace or directory at all, and GlossGenius and Square don’t either. Their $0 new-client fee is honest because they do no acquisition. Three do acquisition and charge for it: StyleSeat, Booksy’s Boost, Fresha. Vagaro lists pros in its own marketplace, but whether that listing delivers bookings to a solo pro isn’t verified here — treat it as a listing, not a channel.

Platform

Solo price

Adding a second person

Can it send you a client?

Vagaro (baseline)

$30/mo list (one staff member)

+$10/mo for each additional staff member

Listing; reach not verified. A client brings a photo of a chrome French with an apex so aggressive it would snap by Tuesday. You spend ten minutes talking her into the version that survives her job. You file the sidewalls straight because you noticed hers lift on the left.

That’s the business. The subscription is plumbing underneath it. The platform matters because it either protects those forty minutes or spends them — on reschedule texts, on a no-show you learn about at 3:05.

What $35 buys when the platform is spending on your behalf

StyleSeat is built the other direction — one pro first, and the price doesn’t move when your Saturdays get busier. It spends millions a year on ads on pros’ behalf, feeding a marketplace with 74M+ visits a year and 2M+ clients actively searching. StyleSeat’s New Client Connection fee is 30% of a new client’s first service, capped at $50, charged once per client and only after the appointment. A $200 service hits the $50 cap — you take home $190, assuming a 20% tip, and never pay it again. Top Pros using New Client Connection see $9,800 a year in new-client revenue and 120+ new clients a year.

If your book is already decent, this is the half that matters: the marketing tools sit inside the base price. Email and text marketing, client reminders, an automated booking assistant, business analytics, promotions, a Loyalty Program, AI social posts and review management are all in the $35. Clients pay a $2.35 booking fee, which StyleSeat’s figure says cuts no-shows by over 80%, and the full fee list is published. We compare them in StyleSeat vs. Vagaro on 2026 costs. Staff calendars are supported today at no extra cost, and there’s a small-salon tier in beta with a receptionist and shared calendars.

Texting: reminders and confirmations are included, and outbound marketing texts are metered. SMS credits cost $10 for 1,500 or $5 for 750, with no monthly minimum and nothing owed in a month you send nothing. Text lightly and it costs almost nothing; a competitor’s add-on bills you either way.

Where Vagaro and the others are the better call

If your book is full and you dont need help with marketing, take a cheap scheduler and keep the money. Setmore is free up to four users, Acuity is $16 billed annually. If you need payroll, real inventory or a second location, Mangomint at $120 plus $10 per user and Boulevard from $140 per location specialize in exactly that and are good at it. And Vagaro’s $0 new-client fee is right for a pro who has never needed help filling a chair — if every client came from a cousin or an Instagram tag, a custom booking website may be all you’re missing.

Questions solo pros ask before they switch

What’s the best Vagaro alternative if I work by myself?

It depends on whether you need clients or only a calendar. If you need new clients, StyleSeat is the closest fit at $35 a month standing, currently promoted at $19: it runs a marketplace with 74M+ visits a year and includes email and text marketing in the base price, where Vagaro sells both as add-ons. If your book is full, the cheapest answers are Setmore (free up to 4 users), Goldie (free, or $19.99–$39.99), Acuity ($16 billed annually) and Square (free for solo pros with limited tools) — none of which runs a marketplace.

Which Vagaro alternatives charge nothing for a new client?

GlossGenius, Square, Acuity, Setmore, Goldie, Mangomint and Boulevard all charge $0 for a new client, and none of the seven runs a marketplace to send you one. Vagaro also charges $0. The three that do charge are the three doing acquisition: StyleSeat at 30% of a first service capped at $50, once per client; Booksy Boost at 30% of a first visit, capped at $100 per new client; Fresha at 20%, $6 minimum, with a per-client cap it shares only after you subscribe.

Does Vagaro bring solo pros new clients?

Vagaro lists pros in its own marketplace and charges no new-client fee, but how much booking volume that listing delivers to a solo pro is not verified here — treat it as a listing rather than a proven channel, and measure it for a month. The three that publish an acquisition mechanism and price it are StyleSeat (30% of a first service, capped at $50, once per client), Booksy Boost (30% of a first visit) and Fresha (20% one-time, $6 minimum). A $0 fee is only a saving if new clients were arriving.

One person, one calendar, one decision

You’re not behind because your platform has an Employees tab with one name in it. You’re paying for a shape you aren’t yet, and maybe never want to be. That’s fixable, and it takes an evening.

Count the clients who found you through the app last quarter against the ones who already knew your name. If the first number is zero, you’re paying for a calendar — so pay less for one, or pay for something that goes out and looks. StyleSeat is normally $35 a month, promoted at $19 right now, with a 21-day trial to settle it.

Last updated September 3, 2026 · By StyleSeat Editorial Team.

{"@context":"https://schema.org","@graph":[{"@type":"BlogPosting","headline":"Vagaro Alternatives for Solo Professionals in 2026","author":{"@type":"Organization","name":"StyleSeat Editorial Team"},"publisher":{"@type":"Organization","name":"StyleSeat"},"datePublished":"2026-08-31","dateModified":"2026-09-03"},{"@type":"FAQPage","mainEntity":[{"@type":"Question","name":"What's the best Vagaro alternative if I work by myself?","acceptedAnswer":{"@type":"Answer","text":"It depends on whether you need clients or only a calendar.
