Ready to find out your hair type? Take the quiz above to find out not only your hair type, but also more details specific to your hair texture and tips for taking care of your beautiful locks.

We’ve also put together a chart of different types of hair textures and their subtypes below if you’re interested in learning how to care for other hair types.

Straight HairThough your hair may lack natural curls, the natural shine and strength more than make up for it! With straight hair, you may notice your hair gets oilier quicker than other hair types. Use fewer products on your hair to minimize oil production.
Wavy HairYou’re right in between straight and curly hair. Your wavy-licious hair looks and feels different every day, depending on the weather outside. Your hair is prone to frizziness, so avoid running your hands through it and add a leave-in treatment to your hair routine to minimize frizz.
Curly HairYou have naturally voluminous curls with lots of body and shape. Your hair type goes flat when wet, but bounces back when dry. It can feel drier than other hair types, so add in moisturizing products to your hair care routine. Avoid heat on your hair and instead try out heatless styles to protect your gorgeous locks.
Coily HairYour hair type is full of stunning tight curls. Your locks need a little extra love in the care department, as they can be prone to dryness and tangles with improper care. Moisturizing and detangling are key for this hair type. Plus, protective hairstyles like box braids and stitch braids can help prevent breakage.

Did you know this about your hair?

Below are fun facts, tips and tricks on caring for your beautiful strands.

  • Human scalps have an average of 1,000 hairs per square inch? That’s a lot of hair!
  • Overwashing can lead to damage and hair loss. How often you should wash your hair will depend on your hair type and texture.
  • The best time to identify your curl shape and pattern is right after you wash your hair with no leave-in product.
  • Different hair types need specific hairbrushes and combs for their texture. Paddle brushes work best for straight hair, whereas a wet hair brush works best for those with curly hair.
  • Straight hair gets oilier quicker than curly hair, as natural oil is able to flow all the way to the ends. Curly hair requires extra added moisture, as oil has difficulty reaching the ends, leaving them dry.
